Mumbai’s First Elevated Nature Trail at Malabar Hill to Open on April 30, Details inside

Mumbai’s first-ever Elevated Nature Trail at Malabar Hill is set to open on April 30, 2025, offering a refreshing retreat for nature lovers. Inspired by Singapore’s iconic Tree Top Walk, this 485-meter-long walkway provides a unique opportunity to explore Kamala Nehru Park and Firozeshah Mehta Garden from above. With breathtaking views, lush greenery, and a serene ambiance, the trail promises to be a peaceful escape in the heart of the city.

The inauguration ceremony will take place at 9:00 AM, with Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, presiding over the event. Senior officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will also be present to mark the launch of this ambitious project.

Visitors can look forward to a tranquil walk surrounded by more than 100 species of trees and plants, including Gulmohar, Jamun, Arjun, and Sita Ashok. The trail also serves as a haven for birdwatchers, offering a chance to spot species such as the Indian Grey Hornbill, Kingfisher, Bulbul, and Cuckoo. A highlight of the trail is the Sea Viewing Deck, which provides a spectacular panoramic view of the Arabian Sea near Girgaon Chowpatty.

Built using wooden decks, steel reinforcements, and ambient lighting, the trail ensures both safety and an eco-friendly experience. To regulate foot traffic, an access control system will be in place, along with an emergency exit system for added security.

With rapid urbanization shrinking Mumbai’s green spaces, this initiative by the BMC aims to promote eco-tourism while offering an educational and recreational space for residents and tourists alike. While the BMC has yet to officially announce the entry fee, reports suggest that Indian citizens will be charged Rs 25, while foreign nationals will pay Rs 100.

Built at a cost of Rs 25 crore, construction of the trail began in 2021. Considering Malabar Hill is a silent zone, work was carried out only during limited hours. The entry and exit points will be from Siri Road, located behind Kamala Nehru Park. From there, the 705-meter walkway will wind through the Malabar Hill Forest, offering uninterrupted views of the Arabian Sea. Additional features include a birdwatching zone and a glass-bottom viewing deck, enhancing the overall experience.
