Western Railway Cracks Down on Ticketless Travellers in AC Trains, Collects Rs. 1.7 Crore Fine
The Western Railway covered Rs. 1.7 crore fine from ticketless travelers that were caught making a commute via AC Locals in 10 months. The officials were constantly conducting ticket check drives between April 2024 and January 2025 in the Western Railway’s suburban network.
The Western Railway’s suburban network runs 1,406 trains, including 109 AC trains. On this rail route, over 30 lakh passengers travel daily via local trains, and 1.26 lakh passengers travel via AC locals.
From April 2024 to January 2025, police caught over 51,600 people committing the felony of traveling without a ticket and recovered the fine amount from them.

Western Railway’s Chief Spokesperson, Vineet Abhishek, said that to enhance the travel experience of people and to curb irregular travelers in AC locals, many initiatives are now being undertaken by the Western Railway. He said that these initiatives include a dedicated AC task force in suburban trains, and there will be a special team dedicated to monitoring irregular travelers' issues.
He also mentioned that during peak hours and throughout the day, passengers can lodge complaints about AC local trains on Helpline No. 139 or drop a text on WhatsApp number 9004497364, and they will get an immediate response from the railway.
