Nagpur, June 28

As many as five badminton coaches submitted a memorandum to the district collector Ravindra Thakare and municipal commissioner Radhakrishnan B requesting them to allow indoor sports activities.

The state government has clamped fresh curbs in the state from Monday under the “level 3” of unlocking amid concerns over the Delta Plus variant of coronavirus. In the process, the government has ordered to close the indoor halls once again.

While protesting the decision five coaches including Amit Raut, Ajay Dayal, Jitesh Sedani, Sachin Gulati and Vishal Methai gave the memorandum to both district collector and municipal commissioner.

In their memorandum they have urged the authorities to reconsider their decision in the interest of both players as well as coaches. According to the coaches, indoor sports mainly played in the city are badminton and table tennis. Both are non-contact sports and played in non AC halls. The chances of contracting the virus are much lower as compared to permitted other activities like gymnasiums, salons and spas. The coaches said there are many nationally ranked badminton players in the city who have brought laurels to the city. The regular practice of these players will be severely affected by this decision. It will also affect their performance in the future tournaments.

The coaches have assured the authorities that all Covid protocols will be followed.
