Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared that the curfew that had been enforced in certain areas of the city had been lifted and that everything was now fully peaceful in Nagpur.

CM Fadnavis was addressing the media while attending an event hosted by the nonprofit Paani Foundation in Pune, Maharashtra's Pimpri Chinchwad region.

Speaking with the journalists outside the event he said, “The situation is completely peaceful. There is no tension anywhere, and people of all religions are living together in harmony. There is no need for a curfew anymore, and hence, it has been lifted."

Six days after violence shook Nagpur, officials earlier in the day announced that curfews had been removed in the city's remaining four zones.

Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shanti Nagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imambada, Yashodhara Nagar, and Kapil Nagar police station areas were placed under curfew after the March 17 incident.

Amid allegations that a 'chadar' with sacred inscriptions was set on fire during rallies spearheaded by the VHP and Bajrang Dal calling for the demolition of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, violent mobs went on the rampage in central Nagpur.

Curfews were lifted on March 20 in areas under the authority of the police stations in Nandanvan and Kapil Nagar, and on March 22 in Pachpaoli, Shanti Nagar, Lakadganj, Sakkardara, and Imambada.

Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal on March 23 issued an order to lift the curfew in the remaining parts of the Kotwali, Tehsil, Ganeshpeth, and Yashodhara Nagar police stations starting at 3 p.m.

According to an official, local police will continue to be deployed and patrol critical areas.

CM Fadnavis had stated that the government would recover the cost of property damaged during the riots in Nagpur from rioters and roll bulldozers 'if required'.

In order to recoup the losses, CM Fadnavis threatened to confiscate and sell the violent offenders' properties if they did not make amends.

Those who attacked police personnel during the riots will face severe consequences, the CM warned.
