Serving Covid patients at the age of 75
Many doctors have stopped practice in the Covid era. People fear to go to government hospital. The zonal hospitals of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) wore a deserted look, A 75-year-old doctor gave a new lease of life to NMC hospital with his relentless service to patients at free of cost.
Dr Ganpat Natthuji Nasre is the doctor. Bi-cycle in hand, bag in carrier, a tired looking body according to age but full of energy is the personality of Dr Nasre. In the Pandey lay-out, he provides free service from 10 am to 1 pm in NMC’s dispensary. During the period of Covid, the doctors of the campus stopped the practice, but Dr. Nasre treated many people. Despite having the diabetes and BP, he did not deprive anyone of treatment. The government had given a call to serve in the era of Covid. He was appointed through the district collector.
Dr. Ganpat Nasre has given medical service in rural area for 31 years. He retired as a medical officer in the year 2004. After retirement, he served leprosy patients and supported citizens in Pandey lay out premises and NMC’s medical team during Covid''s era.
“Empty mind is the wealth of disease, at this age, if a person is empty, then he becomes a victim of some disease. In the era of Covid, the administration needed doctors. This requirement was met through service.”

Applied for home
In his 31 years of service, Dr. Nasre could not even build a simple house for himself. He has this pain in his mind. Dr. Nasre''s house is in Tinkheda of Narkhed tehsil. There, he has applied to get a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He approached the office of the chief minister, guardian minister and the project director of the district rural development machinery. However, he did not get home. It is his intention to provide free medical service benefits to the villagers. He said that after death, he is ready to return the house to the government.
