Nagpur, Jan 12

The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Tuesday has directed Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to submit a complete report on dangerous electricity poles and transformers on the road and given two weeks of time to NMC.

There is a PIL in the court in this regard. Justice duo Nitin Jamdar and Anil Kilor presided over the proceedings.

Initially, the issue of dangerous electricity poles and transformers on only 19 roads was before the court. The court had then ordered survey of other roads in the city to find dangerous electricity poles and transformers in view of the ongoing road widening works.

Accordingly, NMC and MSEDCL jointly surveyed the road. They found 2,704 electricity poles on 113 roads, 368 DP / TP / FP and 100 transformers to be dangerous. This includes one road each under the jurisdiction of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and MSRDC and 15 roads under the jurisdiction of Public Works Department (PWD).

Other roads are under the jurisdiction of the NMC. Meanwhile, NMC started the work of shifting electricity poles and transformers on the initial 19 roads and most of the work has been completed. In this case Adv. Shrirang Bhandarkar represented the court, while Adv Sudhir Puranik represented NMC in the proceedings.
