Ward pattern to change political equations
candidates will increase
A look at the last few municipal elections shows that the number of independent candidates in the one-member ward structure has increased. Ward elections were held in 2007. At that time there were 26 small parties and independent corporators. In the two-member ward elections of 2012, the number of small parties and independent corporators was 18. With this in mind, independent and small party corporators will dominate the 2022 elections.
Population 24,47,494
Scheduled Castes 4,80,759
Scheduled Tribes 1,88,444
At present the population of single ward is between 47,000 to 71,000
15 seats increased in three elections
In 2007, there were 136 corporators in the corporation. In 2012, the number of corporators were 145, while in the 2017 elections, it increased to 151. As the number of corporators increases with the increase in population, the structure of the ward will not be the same as in 2007.
