The government had decided to bring in BS6 emission norms to save the environment which is a welcome move, but then why insistence on Pollution Under Control (PUC) certification? The question is raised by Akhil Bharatiya Grakhak Panchayat (ABGP).

The state secretary of ABGP Gajanan Pande said that the new BS6 emission standard introduced in the country are environment friendly. Due to the introduction of the BS6 standard, the prices of two-wheeler have already gone up by 8-10 thousand rupees and four wheelers by 20-30 thousand rupees and customers have to pay this extra price while purchasing a new vehicle. Apparently these vehicles do not cause pollution and the company has made these vehicles available.

If these vehicles are not polluting the environment, then why the users are compelled to buy PUC certificates? The Central government should take out a GR and provide relief to customers.

If the BS6 vehicle owner does not have PUC the traffic cops hand over `500 challan to the owner and the consumers are facing trouble and the BS6 vehicle owners should not be made mandatory, said Pande. If the emission from these vehicles are polluting the environment then the government should fine the companies. The government should trust the vehicle manufacturing companies and do away with PUC norm. If petrol and diesel are polluting the environment, then fuel companies should also be fined, he added.
