In a major crackdown against drugs, the Crime Branch Unit-2 of Nashik Police arrested two drug peddlers from the Nandur Naka area and seized 13 grams of MD (Mephedrone) powder worth Rs 65,000.
Acting under the instructions of Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, the team from Crime Branch Unit-2 laid a trap based on a tip-off received by Constable Nitin Phulmali. He was informed that drug peddlers were expected to arrive in the Jail Road–Nandur Naka area.
A special team led by Senior Police Inspector Sushila Kolhe and Assistant Inspector Hemant Todkar, along with officers Dr. Samadhan Hire, Sub-Inspector Yashwant Bandkoli, Balu Shelke, Vilas Gangurde, and Gulab Sonar, launched the operation.
The accused, Jay Sunil Phirke and Ankush Shantaram Chaudhary (both aged 24, residents of Samangaon Road), were caught near Sant Janardan Swami Bridge in Nandur Naka Shivara. On searching them, police found 8 grams of MD powder worth Rs 40,000 on Jay, and 5 grams worth Rs 25,000 on Ankush.
Plainclothes teams from the Crime Branch are actively monitoring the activities of drug manufacturers, sellers, and buyers in the city. The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
