In a tragic accident on Sunday morning (13th), a woman died and her son was seriously injured when a large tree suddenly fell on their bike near the Someshwar bus stand on Gangapur Road.

The deceased has been identified as Alka Anil Sonawane, aged 99, a resident of Shivajinagar. She was riding pillion on a bike being driven by her son, Deepak Anil Sonawane (36), also a resident of Shivajinagar. The mother and son were traveling from Gangapur village towards their home when the incident occurred around 9 a.m.

As they were passing near the Someshwar bus stand, a big tree unexpectedly fell on the road, directly hitting their bike. Alka Sonawane was trapped under the tree and suffered severe injuries. Passersby rushed to help and immediately informed emergency services. Alka was declared dead upon arrival by the medical officer at the district government hospital.

Deepak Sonawane, who was also caught under the fallen tree, suffered serious injuries to his head, chest, and left shoulder. He was first taken to the district hospital and later shifted to a private hospital by family members for further treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.

Alka Sonawane is survived by her husband, two sons, a daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. The sudden incident has left the local community in shock. Gangapur Police have registered a case of accidental death and are further investigating the circumstances surrounding the tree fall.
