The first case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) has been reported in Nashik, raising concerns as the number of cases in Maharashtra continues to rise. A 60-year-old man from Pathardi Phata has been diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder and is currently undergoing treatment at the District Government Hospital. His condition is critical, and he has been admitted to the intensive care unit.
GBS cases have been emerging in several parts of the state, including Mumbai, Pune, Solapur, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, and Dhule. Some patients have succumbed to the illness, leading to increased vigilance among health authorities. Nashik’s first case has now put the city's health department on alert.
According to District Surgeon Dr. Charudatta Shinde, the patient initially sought treatment at a private hospital but was transferred to the district hospital as his condition worsened. In response to the growing number of cases, a dedicated 10-bed ward has been set up for GBS patients at the government hospital.
Health officials have issued necessary instructions to medical teams to monitor the situation closely. GBS is a rare condition where the immune system attacks the nerves, potentially leading to paralysis if not treated promptly. Medical experts urge people to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as weakness, tingling sensations, or difficulty in movement.
