The Maharashtra government will establish a special authority for the Nashik Kumbh Mela, similar to the one in Uttar Pradesh, to fast-track development and management. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that this authority will only include administrative officers, with no role for sadhus or mahants. He made this statement while speaking to the media at the government rest house in Nashik.
A ₹1,100 crore plan has been prepared for the development of Trimbakeshwar, a key religious site associated with the Kumbh Mela. The new authority law will be implemented soon to accelerate preparations for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.
Focus on Godavari River Cleanup
To improve the water quality of the Godavari, a sewage treatment plant will be launched next month. Additionally, an action plan will be introduced to purify 24 drains flowing into the river. CM Fadnavis also expressed concerns about the water quality at Kushavarta and assured that necessary improvements will be made.
Permanent Development of Trimbakeshwar
The Chief Minister emphasized that Trimbakeshwar’s development will continue beyond the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, as it is an important religious and tourist destination. Plans are in place to enhance Brahmagiri and other pilgrimage sites in the area.
No Separate Management for Simhastha
CM Fadnavis clarified that the authority will be entirely administrative, excluding religious figures. When asked if a dedicated Simhastha management system like Prayagraj’s is needed, he stated that state leadership is already responsible for all projects, making a separate governing body unnecessary.
This move aims to ensure efficient planning and execution of Kumbh Mela 2027, addressing infrastructure, sanitation, and river purification.
