Nashik, Maharashtra (September 28, 2024): Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, inaugurated a statue of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule in Nashik on Saturday. Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and Guardian Minister Dada Bhuse were also present at the ceremony.
The initiative to erect this memorial was long advocated by the Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad and received strong support from the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) after persistent efforts.
Renowned sculptor Balakrishna Panchal from Kudal crafted the granite marble statues, while architect Sham Londhe oversaw the project. The 18-foot statue of Mahatma Phule and the 16.50-foot statue of Savitribai Phule weigh 8 and 7 tons, respectively.
The bronze statues, which took 11 months to complete at a cost of 4.68 crore rupees, stand on an 8-foot concrete square foundation and a 30- to 40-foot pile foundation. The site also includes well-lit pathways, water fountains, gardens, and other amenities.
