Nashik Shocker: Prisoner Attempts Suicide After Brutal Assault by Inmates in Jail

A violent clash among inmates at Nashik Central Jail led to a prisoner attempting suicide after being brutally assaulted and harassed. A case has been registered at Nashik Road Police Station against nine accused in connection with the incident.

According to the complaint, the attack occurred around 2 a.m. in the prison ward. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Chaudhary, a resident of Kusumba, was allegedly beaten by fellow inmates, including Paul, Kaghmare, Dinesh Chavan, Lala, Mama, Wajid, Mahajan, Amol, and Mohan (full name unknown). The accused reportedly forced Chaudhary to consume an unknown substance and issued death threats while abusing him.

The primary accused, Sagar alias Pankaj Bajira, has been in judicial custody at Nashik Central Jail since 2021 in connection with a murder case. Following the assault, Chaudhary complained to the prison superintendent, but instead of receiving protection, he was attacked again. The accused reportedly beat him with a wooden baton and a 'Peshwa' weapon.

Frustrated by the ongoing torture, Chaudhary attempted suicide by tying a handkerchief around his neck and repeatedly banging his head against the wall. Despite seeking medical help, his complaints were allegedly ignored.

Adding to his distress, Chaudhary’s money order of ₹7,500, meant for his expenses, was also delayed for three months, further aggravating the situation.

The prison authorities have been informed, and the police are investigating the case. The incident has raised serious concerns about inmate safety and security inside the jail.
