Nashik Tensions: Curfew Imposed in Kathe Galli Over Religious Construction Dispute; Mahant Sudhir Das Maharaj Detained
A dispute over an illegal religious construction in the Kathe Galli area of Nashik's Dwarka, Maharashtra, led to a curfew being imposed on Saturday, February 22. The Nashik Police have deployed police personnel to prevent any law and order issues. After opposition from the entire Hindu community, the Nashik administration began demolition of the illegal mazaar. Security forces and barricades are in place.
Tensions escalated at the site when Mahant Sudhir Das Maharaj was detained while speaking to the media. The situation grew chaotic as police took him into custody, along with a few others, to maintain order in the area. As a precaution, multiple roads in and around Dwarka and Kathe Galli have been closed since Friday (February 21) night, and barricades have been set up to restrict movement.
