The city of Nashik, known for its pleasant climate, is now reeling under intense heat. For the second consecutive day, the temperature crossed the 40°C mark, leaving citizens shocked and struggling to cope with the heatwave. The Meteorological Department has issued a 'Yellow Alert' for high temperatures until Wednesday (April 9).

On Monday, the maximum temperature reached 40.3°C, just a notch higher than Sunday’s 40.2°C. This is the first time in about 13 years that Nashik has recorded over 40 degrees in the first week of April. The minimum temperature has also increased, settling at 19.8°C, making nights uncomfortably warm for residents.

Afternoon heat forced people indoors, and traffic on the roads dropped noticeably. Many households have started using air conditioners, fans, and coolers even during nighttime to get relief from the heat.

Will 2012 Record Be Broken?

In April 2012, Nashik recorded a high of 40.4°C on the 8th. With temperatures rising steadily, experts say the record could be broken if Tuesday sees another spike in heat. The current weather pattern indicates that the heatwave will persist for the next couple of days.

Recent Maximum Temperatures (in °C):

Tuesday (1st): 33.4

Wednesday (2nd): 37.3

Thursday (3rd): 36.0

Friday (4th): 37.5

Saturday (5th): 39.1

Sunday (6th): 40.2

Monday (7th): 40.3

Yellow Alert in Effect

The Indian Meteorological Department has advised citizens to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. The warning will remain in place until Wednesday (9th), and further updates will be issued depending on weather developments.

With summer still in its early days, residents fear the worst is yet to come.
