292 cops including 67 from CRPF martyred in past one year

Rich tributes were paid to 10 policemen who died on October 21, 1959 during the Chinese incursion, in Ladakh in the line of duty, on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, which is observed every year to pay homage to these fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the country 60 years ago.

Former Delhi Police Commissioner Dr. K K Paul and Tilak Raj Kakkar were present on the occasion of the Police Commemoration Day Parade which was observed at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi. The former officials placed wreaths at the martyrs' memorial.

Special Commissioner of Police of Delhi Rajesh Malik said, "as many as 292 police personnel, including from paramilitary forces like the CRPF and BSF, have lost their lives in the line of duty across the country between September 2018 and August this year during anti-terror and other operations.

Out of 292, 10 were from Delhi, 2 from Andhra Pradesh, 3 from Arunachal Pradesh, 7 from Bihar, 14 from Chhattisgarh, 1 from Himachal Pradesh, 3 from Haryana, 24 from Jammu and Kashmir, 5 from Jharkhand, 12 from Karnataka, 2 from Madhya Pradesh, 20 from Maharashtra, 2 from Manipur, 2 from Odisha, 10 from Rajasthan, 7 from West Bengal, 5 from Uttar Pradesh and 1 each from Sikkim and Tripura.

Three of them belonged to Assam Rifles, 41 belonged to BSF, 6 belonged to CISF, 67 belonged to CRPF, 23 belonged to ITBP, 11 belonged to RAF and 5 belonged to SSB who laid their lives for the country in the past one year. The names of the 292 martyrs were read out during the Police Commemoration Day function on Monday.

Similar commemoration parades were observed all across the country on Monday.
