A total of 557 Shramik Special trains have been operated so far on the request of Maharashtra government, Shivaji Sutar, Chief Public Relation Officer, Central Railway, Mumbai.

Speaking to Sutar said, "On request of Maharashtra government Central Railway has run 557 trains which have taken 7.70 lakh migrants to their destinations."

He said that on Monday the Railways have received the request of 46 trains of which 41 have been notified.

"Today we have received the request of 46 trains from Maharashtra government. Out of these 46, 5 trains could not be notified as they were to go to Amphan cyclone-affected West Bengal and Orissa. Rest 41 of the trains have already been notified for today. Nodal officers of Maharashtra government and Central Railway are in contact with each other to arrange trains for migrants," Sutar said.

Earlier in the day, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal stated that the Indian Railways will notify 41 Shramik special trains for Maharashtra despite being prepared to run 125 trains. The minister said that the Maharashtra government has provided a list of only 46 trains, out of which five are to West Bengal and Odisha, which cannot operate due to cyclone Amphan.

"Where is the list for 125 trains from Maharashtra? As of 2 am, received a list of only 46 trains of which five are to West Bengal and Odisha which cannot operate due to cyclone Amphan. We are notifying only 41 trains for today despite being prepared for 125 !!!" Goyal tweeted.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena Leader Sanjay Raut took a dig at Railway Ministry and requested Union Minister Piyush Goyal that trains should reach the station at which it is scheduled for.

"The Maharashtra government has given the list of required trains to the Ministry of Railways. The only request from Piyush Goyal Ji is that the train should reach the station at which it should arrive. The train leaving for Gorakhpur should not reach Orissa," Raut tweeted.
