The Modi Govt has now geared up to protect the interests of the customers. In the coming days, the central government is going to implement a new law to curb fraud cases with customers in new ways. The Consumer Protection Act-2019 will be implemented from July 20. The new law will be a redesign of the Consumer Protection Act 1986. With the implementation of this new law, many new rules will be implemented to protect the interests of customers, which were not in the old Act.

Key Features of the new Consumer Protection Act

Action will also be taken to issue misleading advertisements to consumers under the new law.

The consumer can register a case in any consumer court of the country

Online and Teleshopping companies are included in the new law for the first time.

Provision of fine and jail on companies for adulteration of food and drink.

Formation of Consumer Mediation Cell now both sides will be able to go to the Mediation Cell with mutual consent

PIL or PIL can now be filed in the Consumer Forum which was not so in the earlier law

Up to one crore cases will be filed in the Consumer Forum.

State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission will hear cases ranging from one crore to ten crores.

Hearing of cases above ten crore in National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission.
