Amritsar Rural Police Bust Cross-Border drug racket, 3 arrested
In significant breakthrough in the fight against cross-border drug trafficking the Amritsar rural police has arrested three individuals involved in narcotics smuggling and legal monetary transaction. Arrested individuals have been identified as Rajnath Singh alias Rana , Girdev Singh alias Gedi, and Shailendra Singh alias Selu.
According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the trio was actively engaged in smuggling heroin from across the border and channeling funds through illegal hawala routes. During the operation, the police recovered 500 grams of heroin, a Glock 9mm pistol along with two magazines, and ₹33 lakh in hawala money.

DGP Yadav, in an official statement, lauded the efforts of the Amritsar Rural Police and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to dismantling drug networks operating along the India-Pakistan border. “The arrest of these individuals is a major blow to cross-border smuggling and hawala operations. We are working relentlessly to trace the entire network and bring every link to justice,” he said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were part of an organized syndicate that has been facilitating the inflow of drugs into Punjab while simultaneously moving large sums of money through unauthorized channels. The police are now probing further into the nexus and expect more arrests in the coming days.
The seizure of a sophisticated weapon like the Glock pistol also raises concerns over the rising availability of illegal firearms among drug traffickers.
