An unidentified young man reportedly attacked five worshippers with a metal rod at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, a sacred site for Sikhs. One of the victims, a young Sikh man from Bathinda, is in critical condition. He is currently receiving emergency treatment at Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Amritsar.
The Indian Express reported that police have arrested the attacker and an accomplice. According to a police officer, the accomplice is suspected of scouting the Golden Temple with the attacker beforehand.
Dr. Jasmeet Singh stated that the victims reported being attacked with a rod by an unidentified assailant. Five patients were admitted, one of whom is in critical condition and in the ICU, while the other four are stable. SHO Sarmel Singh of PS Kotwali stated that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) handed over a man named Zulfan to the police following a clash at the Golden Temple. People from both sides, including SGPC workers, were injured in the clash. He added that legal action will be taken.
