Bihar Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert As Unseasonal Rainfall Hits Patna and Nearby Districts (Watch Videos)

In Bihar's capital, Patna, the weather took a sudden turn on Saturday morning, March 1. Districts including Patna, Siwan, Saran, Bhojpur, and Vaishali were covered by clouds since early this morning. By 7 AM, rainfall was recorded in several areas. The sudden showers also led to a slight drop in temperature. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain in several districts of Bihar.

Following the rain, a slight dip in the state’s minimum temperature is expected. However, according to an update issued by the Meteorological Department on Friday afternoon, the maximum temperature in Bihar is likely to range between 28 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 14 degrees Celsius to 20 degrees Celsius. Notably, until Friday, no prior warning for rain in Patna had been issued.

The Meteorological Centre in Patna has also warned of thunderstorms in isolated areas of Katihar, Jamui, Banka, Bhagalpur, Munger and Nawada on March 1, 2025. However, no weather alerts have been issued for March 2 to March 7.

This year, during the Rabi season, light rain—essential for crops—was largely absent. Additionally, winter arrived late, with cold spells occurring in January and February instead of December, and even then, temperatures were not as low as required for optimal Rabi crop growth. As a result, farmers are now concerned about the impact of this unseasonal rain, as wheat, lentil, and gram crops are currently in the grain-forming stage.
