Rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. The development came to light one day after the Kottayam Additional District Court cancelled the bail granted to Mulakkal and issued a non-bailable warrant against him. Mulakkal’s PRO Father Peter said the health of the bishop is not so good. The Kerala High Court on July 7 had dismissed a petition seeking to discharge Mulakkal from the sexual assault case filed against him by the nun.

The prosecution, however, told the court that the place where the rape accused lives is not a containment zone (as on July 1). aIn June 2018, a nun accused Mulakkal of raping her on multiple occasions from 2014 to 2016. During this time, Mulakkal was visiting Kottayam district of Kerala. After the allegation surfaced, three other women also came to the fore and accused the Bishop of sexual misconduct. The accused was arrested in September 2018.
