India is currently dealing with a devastating second Covid-19 wave that has swept through the nation, crushing the country's health infrastructure and overburdening frontline medical workers. But it is gaining control after restrictions imposed by several states to curb virus spread. But now the black fungus (mucormycosis) has raised concerns of the health system. Black fungus patients have been found in many states of the country. These patients have some similar threads.

A lockdown has been imposed on the backdrop of the Corona in Bihar. After which a declining trend was witnessed in the state.But now the disease of black fungus has raised concerns before the administration. In the last 24 hours, more patients with black fungus than covid have been regitered in Bihar.

According to the health department, the number of black fungus patients in the state has reached nearly 400. At the same time, black fungus has killed 12 people in the last 24 hours. In view of the increasing black fungus cases, the state government has increased the number of beds for black fungus.

The Bihar government on Saturday evening declared Mucormycosis or Black Fungus as an epidemic disease under Section 2 of the Epidemic Disease Act 1897. The Chief Minister's office (CMO) tweeted and informed about the decision taken by the Chief Minister of Bihar.

"Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced black fungus as an epidemic," said CMO.Earlier, health minister Mangal Pandey said, "Following instructions from chief minister Nitish Kumar, Black Fungus has been made a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Disease Act. Government and private hospitals will have to inform the health department through a civil surgeon. Patients will get free medicine."
