The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) revised tariff rates on Wednesday, April 9. Bengalureans will now have to pay more for their water spending as the government has approved increasing tariffs by 32%. Sewerage charges have also been increased by 25%, which will result in a significant increase in the bill amount.

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has finalised the revised rates. For domestic users, the increase is between 0.15 paisa and 1 paisa per litre, depending on the slab. For industries, the increase will be between 0.9 paisa and 1.9 paise per litre.

The tariff for domestic high-rise buildings has also been increased by a minimum of 0.3 paisa to a maximum of 1 paisa. The revised tariff will be reflected in bills issued from May onwards. Sanitary charges for borewells or wells have also been hiked by Rs 30 and Rs 125 for domestic and non-domestic connections.

Announcing that a government order in this regard will be released on Thursday, BWSSB Chairman Dr Ramprasat Manohar V said the board has tried its best to reduce the inconvenience to the public and kept the tariff hike minimal.  The board plans to promote efficient and minimal usage of water and hence, those consuming less water will see a minimal increase and the hike in tariff will increase proportionately with the increase in consumption, BWSSB noted in the release.
