Cabinet approves NEP: Board exams will be low stakes, teaching in mother tongue till class 5
The Modi government on Monday approved a New Education Policy (NEP). According to the new policy, boards will get a lot easier as the new policy proposes lowering the stakes of these tests, which lead to a lot of stress among not just students by also parents.
Cabinet under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given approval to a new education policy for the 21st century. It is important, as for 34 years there were no changes in the education policy, said Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.
The changes:
To change the pedagogical structure from the existing 10+2 scheme to a 5+3+3+4 scheme.
To remove board exams for class 10. To divide into 8 semesters classes 9 to 12.
To emphasise language and mathematics from classes 1 to 3
Medium of instruction to be mother tongue or local language till class 5 and preferably till class 8 and beyond.
Further, M.Phil programme will be discontinued. Students can also do a four-year degree programme, one-year Masters and then directly go to the doctoral programme.
