Jaipur, June 27 The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge-sheet against 24 people in the 2017 Sanwrad village violence and riot case in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan that followed the "encounter" of an alleged criminal Anand Pal Singh, who carried a reward.

While filing the charge-sheet at a special court in Jodhpur, the CBI said Lokender Singh Kalvi played a key role in the riot. He had urged people to gather at the village and refused to cremate Anand's body, killed in an encounter on June 24, 2017.

on July 12, Kalvi organised a "shradhanjali sabha" at Sanwrad, Anand's village, to pressurise the government to accept their demands, the CBI said. Kalvi and his supporters allegedly visited the police control room at Sanwrad Tiraha and threatened officials to accept their demands.

Several people delivered hate speeches to instigate the crowd, which pelted stones at the police vehicles, causing injuries to the police personnel, the CBI said. Some police personnel were allegedly held captive in a house and the crowd snatched their arms (including .9 mm service pistol and cartridges), mobile phones and other items, it said.

The unruly mob also attacked and burnt the vehicle of the Nagaur Superintendent of Police, it's alleged.

Kalvi, along with 22 others and a woman, named Seema Raghuvanshi, has been named in the charge-sheet. Others are: Sukhdev Singh Gugamedi, Hanuman Singh Khangta, Mahipal Singh Makrana, Yogender Singh Katar, Durg Singh, Ranjit Singh Mangla, Ranjeet Singh Gendia, Ranveer Singh Guda, Okender Rana, Charanjeet Singh Kanwar, A.P. Singh, Giriraj Singh Lotwara, Mahavir Singh, Pratap Singh Ranawat, Prem Singh Banwasa, Bhanwar Singh Reta, Dilip Singh, Jabbar Singh, Mohan Singh Hattoj, Yunus Ali, Rajender Singh Gudha and Ghanshyam Singh Tyod.

The CBI had registered the case on January 5, 2018 on request from the Rajasthan government and subsequent notification issued by central government.
