Cipla gets DCGI nod for import of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine
The second wave of corona in the country has subsided. The number of corona patients has been steadily declining for the last one and a half months. But the threat of a third wave remains. So efforts are underway to speed up the corona preventive vaccination campaign. As part of the same effort, a fourth vaccine will soon be available in the country. Cipla/Moderna on Tuesday got Drugs Controller General of India nod for import of COVID-19 vaccine. The central government will soon make an announcement regarding it, reported ANI.
Moderna's method to protect against Covid-19 relies on messenger RNA (mRNA) to program cells to generate immunity to the coronavirus. The vaccine has shown more than 90 per cent efficacy in clinical trials in protecting against COVID-19.
Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V vaccines are currently being used in the country.
