Gurugram, Jan 6 Hundreds of illegal hutments have come up on more than 6 acres of agricultural land at Sikanderpur Badha village in Sector-82 in Gurugram, according to a complaint by a Gurguram resident.

A complaint in this regard was filed by the resident named Bir Singh, at the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) on November 11, 2020.

The unhygienic conditions in the slum which is spread over 6 acres forced Singh to complain to authorities. The area has over 100 hutments, most of them constructed over the last year.

The complainant alleged that the landowner had intentionally developed these hutments and had rented them out to labourers.

Singh had reported the matter to the town planners and other officials, but no action has been taken yet.

"We have written to the DTCP and a complaint has been registered with the department, but the authorities are yet to act," Singh alleged in his complaint.

The complainant in his letter said that this land was located adjacent to a private company.

"The landowner is completely doing commercial activities on agricultural land and without obtaining NOC from the concerned department no one can do such activities on their own land," Singh said in his complaint.

Singh also pointed out that a bore well on the land was intended for agriculture purposes but the land owner was using the water for commercial purposes and even supplying the water to under construction illegal colonies.

"This is the right time for civic authorities to act against the illegal slums. If illegal structures become a full-fledged slum colony, it would be a big problem for residents even if it encourages other landowners to opt for such illegal activities," said Singh.

The biggest problems the local residents face due to the slum are pigs and dumping of garbage.

"Necessary action will soon be initiated against the offenders as per the law. An investigation in the matter is underway and the enforcement wing has also been informed," said R.S. Bhatt, district town planner.
