First Ever Wedding at Rashtrapati Bhavan: The Story Behind the Permission and the Bride's Unique Connection

For the first time ever, a wedding is being held at the prestigious Rashtrapati Bhavan, a symbol of national pride. While most people book large hotels or banquet halls for weddings, this bride has chosen to celebrate her special day within the walls of the Rashtrapati Bhavan itself. It may seem unbelievable, but it’s true — a wedding is happening at the President's residence.
Avnish Tiwari, an Assistant Commandant in the CRPF, hails from Badka village in Bhathpar Rani, Deoria, Uttar Pradesh.

He is marrying Poonam, a resident of Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. Poonam, who works as an Assistant Commander for the President's Personal Security Officer (PSO), is the reason the wedding is taking place at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Today marks their wedding day. You might wonder how this special event was allowed at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Interestingly, the wedding procession had already arrived at the President's residence on Tuesday. The people of Avnish's village are abuzz with excitement over this extraordinary wedding.

When asked how the permission was granted, Avnish's uncle shared that President Droupadi Murmu was impressed by Poonam’s work and character, which led to the approval for this wedding at Rashtrapati Bhavan.Currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir, Avnish's wedding is taking place in the Mother Teresa Crown area of Rashtrapati Bhavan, with only 94 guests permitted to attend. Now, you may wonder if ordinary citizens will ever be granted permission for a wedding at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The answer, for now, is no. This unique opportunity has been given only to Poonam. As for whether other Rashtrapati Bhavan officials may be allowed similar privileges in the future, time will tell.
