Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh: A 70-year-old woman was brutally assaulted by her daughter-in-law in Gwalior’s Shinde Ki Chhawani area, while her son was also attacked by his wife’s family members. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, yet police registered an FIR only four days later. The victim, identified as Sarla Batra, lives with her son Vishal Batra, his wife Neelika, and her grandchildren. Her husband passed away four years ago. According to Sarla, her daughter-in-law has been pressuring her over property disputes and frequently engages in arguments.

According to media reports, the attack took place around 2 p.m. after an argument over a minor household issue. When Vishal tried to intervene, Neelika allegedly called her father, Surendra Kohli, and her brother, Nanak Kohli, for support. Soon after, Surendra, Nanak, and four other men forcefully entered the house, verbally abused Sarla and Vishal, and then started thrashing Vishal. When Sarla tried to protect her son, Neelika pushed her to the ground, kicked her, and slammed her head against a wall. The assault continued outside. In the video, Neelika is seen dragging her mother-in-law by the hair while her family attacked Vishal. The accused then reportedly threatened to kill them if they approached the police.

After the attack, Sarla and Vishal went to Inderganj Police Station to file a complaint. However, the accused were already present there. Despite showing CCTV footage, police initially refused to register a case. The FIR was finally lodged four days later, only after Sarla and Vishal escalated the matter to senior officers, according to the regional media reports.

Inderganj CSP Robin Jain confirmed that a case has been registered and that police are now examining the CCTV footage as part of the investigation. "The incident occurred 1-2 days back in Adarsh Colony where a daughter-in-law was seen assaulting both her mother-in-law and husband in a viral video. A formal complaint has been filed regarding the physical violence, and we've registered an offense... Preliminary information suggests a family dispute triggered the altercation," he said.
