A local BJP leader Surendra Jawahara was shot dead on Friday night, March 14, by a neighbor over a land dispute in Sonipat's Jawahara village on the Holi festival. According to the officials, Jawahara was killed around 9:30 pm when a neighbour opened fired three bullets at him.

Surendra Jawahara was BJP's Mundlana Mandal president. The accused shooter has not been identified yet and was allegedly enraged over a property dispute involving land that had been purchased in the name of the suspect’s aunt.

The police said that the accused had warned the BJP leader not to enter his land. However, when Jawahara arrived at the site to clear the land on Friday night, the suspect confronted him and opened fire. Jawahar succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Police have launched an investigation into the killing. More details are awaited.

Rishi Kant, ACP Gohana said, "Yesterday, we received information from Komal that a shooting incident occurred in Jawara village, where the village head, Surender, was shot and killed. The police have registered the case and formed three teams—two from the CIA and one mobile SHO team. The accused will be arrested soon..."
