Haryana Police arrested Sachin on Monday for allegedly strangling Congress worker Himani Narwal with a mobile charger cord after an argument at her home in Rohtak. Himani’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase on Saturday, prompting police to form a special investigation team.
Additional Director General of Police K.K. Rao said Sachin, a resident of Jhajjar who runs a mobile phone shop, was arrested in Delhi. Investigators initially had few leads, but a team of officers worked swiftly to identify the victim and track down the suspect.
Police said Sachin had been in contact with Himani through social media for over a year and had visited her home regularly. Himani lived alone in Vijay Nagar. On February 27, Sachin visited her, and they got into a heated argument, allegedly over money. Police reports state that Sachin, who is married and has no political ties, strangled her with a mobile charger cord.
After the murder, Sachin took Himani’s jewelry, laptop, and ring. He rode her scooter to Jhajjar, where he hid the stolen items at his shop. Later that night, he returned to her home, placed her body in a black suitcase, and boarded an auto-rickshaw carrying the suitcase and a blood-stained quilt. He then got off near the Sampla bus stand, possibly to mislead investigators, police said.
Sachin was presented in a Rohtak court on Monday and was remanded to police custody for three days. The investigation is ongoing.
