Barsana came alive with colors and joy as people celebrated Lathmar Holi, marking the start of the grand Holi festivities. This unique tradition, rooted in centuries-old legends, takes place in Barsana, the birthplace of Radha.
According to folklore, Lord Krishna and his friends would visit Barsana to tease Radha and her friends, and in response, the women playfully chased them away with sticks. This playful reenactment continues today, as women symbolically "beat" men from Krishna’s village, Nandgaon, with sticks while drenching them in colors.
Thousands of devotees and tourists gathered to witness the spectacle, with the air filled with vibrant gulal, lively folk music, and devotional songs dedicated to Radha and Krishna. The energy and excitement of the festival set the stage for more Holi celebrations across the Braj region, leading up to the grand festivities in Mathura and Vrindavan.
