The death of a prominent sweet shop owner in Hyderabad has created fear in the minds of people after the person who was in his 60s died of COVID-19. According to reports, the deceased had attended a social gathering where apparently 300 people were in attendance. Social distancing norms were disregarded at this lavish event which had over 300 guests. A majority of the guests turned up without face masks. 

Several of those who attended the event are undergoing treatment in different hospitals or are in home quarantine. This is not the first social gathering which  gone sour in Hyderabad. Five jewellers have died in the past few days after having contracted the COVID virus at such social events. The business community has ended up as one of the biggest Covid-19 victims in Hyderabad. Earlier, a police constable who distributed sweets after the birth of a son also tested positive as did the recipients of the sweets. The Telangana government has intensified the measures to curb the virus by increasing the COVID-19 tests. The total COVID-19 caseload of Telangana presently stands at 42,496 so far with 403 fatalities.
