Aadhaar card is widely regarded as the primary identity document for Indian citizens, essential for both government and private sector services. However, several misconceptions persist about Aadhaar, including the belief that once issued, it remains valid for a lifetime without any updates. While an Aadhaar card does not expire, failing to update it periodically may lead to delays in important transactions and services.

Does Aadhaar Have an Expiry Date?

Aadhaar itself does not have a fixed expiration date. However, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the agency responsible for issuing Aadhaar, recommends periodic updates to ensure seamless biometric authentication. Over time, subtle changes in fingerprints and other biometric data can occur due to aging, leading to authentication failures.

Is It Mandatory to Update Aadhaar After 10 Years?

UIDAI has clarified that Aadhaar does not become invalid if it is not updated after 10 years. However, to avoid authentication issues, individuals are advised to update their demographic and biometric details periodically. Keeping Aadhaar updated ensures smoother access to various government schemes and financial services.

Why Should You Update Your Aadhaar?1.Biometric Changes: Over time, fingerprints and iris scans may change, affecting authentication.  2.Address or Personal Details Updates: If you have changed your address, name (due to marriage, etc.), or phone number, updating Aadhaar helps prevent verification issues.  3. Government & Private Transactions: Some services may require recent Aadhaar updates for seamless processing.

To prevent potential disruptions in essential services, it is advisable to check and update your Aadhaar details periodically through UIDAI’s official website or Aadhaar centers.
