State Agriculture Minister Badal Patralekh said, "We are working for debt waiver of farmers. The Jharkhand Farmers Debt Waiver Scheme is one of the important schemes of our government. Farmers are also urged to go to banks and link their accounts with Aadhaar. According to a report released in December last year, the Jharkhand government has decided to waive off loans of up to Rs 50,000 to about 9 lakh farmers. For this, Rs 2,000 crore will be spent in the form of grants in the current budget.
The decision was taken by a coalition government of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal on December 29 to mark one year in power. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
