Two women, including a foreign national, were allegedly raped near the Hampi heritage site in Karnataka's Koppaland one male tourist who was with them was found dead. The body of Bibas, a resident of Odisha, was found near the power house of the canal, nearly 2 kilometers away from the incident, said a police official.
According to the NDTV report, a 27-year-old foreign national, said to be an Israeli tourist, along with the homestay owner, were allegedly gang-raped by three men on Thursday night, March 6. The incident took place near the serene banks of a canal in Koppal, where they had gone to sight stars.
The accused pushed thee three travellers into canal in a attempt to killed them before allegedly raping the women. While Daniel, who is from the United States, and Pankaj, a traveller from Maharashtra, managed to swim out, Bibash from Odisha drowned. His body was found Saturday morning, reported NDTV.
Koppal Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi told NDTV that there were a total of five people, two of them were women and three men. They were attacked near Sanapur and two of them are foreign tourists, one is a US national and a woman is from Israel. The woman said in her complaint that besides being beaten up, the two women were sexually assaulted by the accused.
29-year-old homestay owner said that she and the four guests had gone for stargazing on the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal after dinner when they were ambushed by attackers on the bike. Attackers first asked where they could get petrol and then started demanding money from them. After being refused by travellers, they started pushing them into the canal and raped the women and fled on their motorcycle after crime.
Gangavathi Rural police have registered a case of rape, robbery, assault and attempt to murder against the accused, said a police official from Karnataka.
