Kerala: Over 20 Injured as Makeshift Gallery Collapses During Football Match in Kothamangalam
Kothamangalam, Kerala (April 21, 2025): A makeshift gallery collapsed during the Adivad football tournament in Kothamangalam on Sunday evening, leaving at least 21 people injured. The incident took place around 10 minutes before the match was set to begin. More than 4,000 spectators had gathered at the venue when the temporary structure suddenly tilted and collapsed to one side.
According to the media reports, fifteen of the injured were rushed to Baselios Medical Mission Hospital in Kothamangalam. Five others were taken to Dharmagiri Hospital. One person who suffered a spinal injury was shifted to Rajagiri Hospital in Kochi for advanced treatment. Local authorities and emergency services responded quickly and began rescue operations. Officials said the gallery was a temporary structure set up for the tournament.

Rescue efforts are still ongoing, and officials are assessing the condition of the structure and the overall safety at the site. An investigation is expected to follow to determine the cause of the collapse and whether there were any lapses in safety measures.
