A mother and daughter were caught red-handed while attempting to dispose of a body in the Ganga river in Kolkata on Tuesday morning. Locals intervened after noticing their suspicious behavior near Kumartuli Ghat and later alerted the police. A video of the shocking incident has surfaced, showing locals confronting the women before police arrived.

The women were first spotted around 8 a.m. carrying a blue trolley bag near the riverbank. Their suspicious behavior drew the attention of locals, who decided to confront them. When asked about the bag’s contents, the women initially refused to open it. After further questioning, they claimed they were carrying the remains of their pet dog. The explanation did not convince the locals, who then alerted the police. Officers arrived at the scene and forced the bag open, revealing a bloodied body inside. The mother and daughter were taken into custody and questioned before being formally arrested.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death at North Port police station. The body has been sent to Calcutta Medical College for postmortem. According to reports, authorities have transferred the case to Barasat district police for further investigation.
