Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Mamata Banerjee’s TMC Leading in West Bengal, PM Modi's BJP's Magic Failing
As counting for 42 seats in West Bengal began at 8am, early trends have started coming in projecting a see-saw battle between the BJP and the Trinamool in West Bengal. As per EC trends, TMC is leading in West Bengal with 19 setas, and BJP is trailing with 3 seats, while Congress has gains only at one seat as of now. The early trends in West Bengal are showing a decisive win for the Trinamool Congress winning 27 seats, while its main competitor the Bharatiya Janata Party led by Suvendhu Adhikari in the north-eastern state gaining an inadequate 14seats, while Congress seems to have performed poorly with only 1 seat to its name.
Abhishek Banerjee from the Trinamool Congress, is winning in the Diamond Harbour area, while Abhijit Das (also known as Bobby) from the BJP is behind.During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP made significant inroads into West Bengal securing victory in 18 seats, closely trailing behind the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which secured 22 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress lagged far behind with just 2 seats.
Predictions from pollsters were not too different, with exit polls indicating a tight race between the saffron party and the TMC. Projections suggested the BJP could claim anywhere from 19 to 23 seats, while the Trinamool was anticipated tosecure between 19 to 22 seats.Exit polls predicted a sweeping victory for the BJP in West Bengal, driven by their aggressive campaign against Mamata Banerjee. According to TOI, two exit polls, Matrize and Jan Ki Baat, have given the BJP 21-25 and 21-26 seats, respectively.
