A multi-storey building collapsed in Ludhiana's Focal Point Phase-8 area earlier today, triggering a massive rescue operation. As per the report, one is dead while five of the injured are in critical condition. Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Jatinder Jorwal confirmed that several people have been rescued and shifted to the hospital for treatment. The health department has been instructed to station medical teams and ambulances at the site until the rescue operation is complete.
Personnel from the Focal Point police station, NDRF, municipal corporation, and fire safety department are actively involved in the ongoing efforts, with additional staff working round-the-clock to clear debris and locate survivors.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Responds
Reacting to the tragic incident, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to social media to assure swift action.
"A factory collapse has been reported in Ludhiana. I have asked the administration to immediately assess the situation. The rescue teams have reached the spot and started their work. I pray for the speedy recovery of those buried under the debris," he wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the collapse. Investigations are expected to follow once the rescue operation concludes.
