Rajya Sabha proceedings were disrupted after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's "thokenge" remarks drew sharp criticism, with BJP National President JP Nadda condemning the Leader of Opposition's statement as an "attack" on the chair. The controversy stemmed from Kharge's response to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's criticism of the Tamil Nadu government regarding the three-language policy. Kharge stated in the Rajya Sabha that he would "thokenge" (criticize) the government and its policies.

Nadda demanded an apology from Kharge, deeming his language and perceived attack on the Deputy Chairman, Harivansh Narayan Singh, condemnable. The Deputy Chairman also expressed his displeasure. Kharge then apologized, clarifying his remarks were directed at the government's policies, not the chair. He also reiterated his criticism of Pradhan's earlier remarks against the Tamil Nadu government, accusing Pradhan of dividing the country and demanding his resignation.

Pradhan's comments, made in the Lok Sabha on Monday, accused the Tamil Nadu government and opposition MPs from Tamil Nadu of being "liars" and "uncivilised" for allegedly reneging on their agreement to implement the PM SHRI scheme. His remarks led to a DMK protest and subsequent adjournment of the Lok Sabha. Pradhan accused the DMK of dishonesty, harming Tamil Nadu students, and playing politics by raising language barriers.
