Masi Magam 2025: School Holiday in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur District On March 12
A school holiday has been declared for March 12 on the occasion of the Masi Magam 2025 festival in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district. The Tamil festival, also known as Maasi Makam, is celebrated across the state by Tamilians over 10 days in Kumbakonam of Thanjavur district.
This year, the festival of Masi Magam falls on Wednesday, March 12, so the district administration said that the school would remain closed on this day. The festival involves processions of temple deities to water bodies for ceremonial baths, attracting thousands of devotees.
In the Karur district, a grand chariot procession with a large number of devotees participating is held in the morning. The Masi Magam festival is celebrated on the 12th month of Tamilians, during which the sacred temple icons, known as Utsava Murthis, are ceremoniously carried to nearby rivers, ponds, or the sea for a ritual cleansing.
This tradition is performed by the thousands of devotees on this day, who participate in the sacred holy bathing. It is believed that immersing oneself in the water during this time washes away sins and bestows spiritual merit.
