A dispute over the city Qazi's chair led to huge chaos during Friday prayers at Shahi Jama Masjid on March 21. The crowd gathered around the Self-proclaimed Qazi Qari Shafiq. He was denied the microphone during the Namaz. Later he was escorted out by police. Maulana Khurshid led the prayers amid the ongoing dispute.
A contender for the city Qazi's position, Maulana Qari Shafiqur Rehman, said, "In the presence of officials, it was decided that Harish Sahab would deliver the statement. I sat down to speak, but I was not allowed. The microphone was not given to me, and I was prevented from speaking, leading to chaos. After the prayers, I was surrounded, and some people misbehaved by pulling my clothes and acting inappropriately. Now, think about why they are doing this to me."
