Mumbai Attack Accused Tahawwur Rana, Extradited from US To Face NIA in Delhi Today: Sources

Tahawwur Rana accused and mastermind behind the 26/11 attack is on the way back to face the law. A special flight carrying him departed from US this evening after he exhausted all legal avenues to stop his extradition. As per the sources he will be landing in Delhi today (10 April) afternoon and will be arrested by National investigation agency right away. 64-year-old Rana is being brought to India to face legal consequences for his role in the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai that killed 157 people. The US Court denied his plea to stop his extradition to India. “Application (…) denied by the Court,” read the Supreme Court docket as updated on Monday.

According to Sources cited by NDTV says that he is likely to be presented in Delhi court. Earlier, the Mumbai police have not been officially informed about when he would be transferred to the city. Rana has been charged with criminal conspiracy, waging war against the government of India, murder and forgery and under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Originally from Pakistan Rana has a Canadian citizenship and was based in Chicago. He is accused of playing a key role in the attacks that cost 157 lives.

Pakistani American terrorist and key figure of 26/11 attack David Coleman Headley, that Rana allegedly provided logistical and financial support for the operation. Headley conducted reconnaissance of Mumbai prior to the attack posing as an employee of Rana's immigration consultancy. The FBI arrested Rana in Chicago in October 2009 for supporting a foiled plot to attack a Danish newspaper in Copenhagen and for providing material support to Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Pakistan-based group behind the Mumbai attacks. Rana was convicted in the US for conspiracy in 2011 and was recently held at a metropolitan detention center in Los Angeles.
