Mumbai: Eight Bangladeshi Transgender, Five Females, Four Males Held for Illegal Stay

In two consecutive days, police arrested 17 Bangladeshi nationals for staying illegally in Mumbai, India. Sharing the details of arrests in a press note, police said that eight transgender people, five females and four males, were held in Mumbai after they were unable to provide any proof of being Indian citizens.

The press note states that Shivaji Nagar Police acted on a tip they got from their source and raided Govandi on March 24. There, they detained eight transgender people. When police investigated, they were unable to provide any proof of Indian Citizenship, and the cops confirmed that they were from Bangladesh.

A case has been registered against them under Rules 3 and 6 of the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1950, Section 3(1) of the Foreigners Order, 1948, and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946.

The RCF Police received another tip the next day, March 25, which led them to nine people they suspected of being Bangladeshi nationals, including five women and four men. After they were questioned, it was determined that they were from that neighbouring nation and were illegally residing in India.

Under the pertinent provisions of the Foreigners Act of 1946 and the Passport (Entry into India) Act of 1950, legal action was taken against them.
