New Delhi Railway Station Stampede: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Likely to Hold High-Level Meeting at Railway Bhawan

New Delhi Railway Station Stampede: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is likely to hold a high-level meeting at Railway Bhawan in Delhi with senior officials. According to IANS, the meeting will cover a detailed briefing on the stampede, including the and timeline of events.

The stampede occurred around 10 p.m. on Saturday when thousands of devotees gathered at the station to board trains to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh 2025 festival. Overcrowding led to panic on platforms 14 and 15, resulting in the deaths of at least 18 people and injuries to several others.

The deceased have been identified as Aaha Devi, 79, Pinky Devi, 41, Sheela Devi, 50, Vyom, 25, Poonam Devi, 40, Lalita Devi, 35, Suruchi, 11, Krishna Devi, 40, Vijay Sah, 15, Neeraj, 12, Shanti Devi, 40, Pooja Kumar, 8, Sangeeta Malik, 34, Poonam, 34, Mamta Jha, 40, Riya Singh, 7, Baby Kumari, 24, and Manoj, 47.

The Railway Board has formed a two-member committee to investigate the cause of the stampede. The government has announced financial assistance for the victims’ families. The families of the deceased will receive ₹10 lakh. Those with serious injuries will be given ₹2.5 lakh, while those with minor injuries will get ₹1 lakh.

A high-level probe has been launched to determine the factors that led to the incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu and several leaders expressed their condolences.
