Amid tensions due to Pakistan sponsoring cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, Border Security Force ( BSF) on Monday did not send sweets to Pakistan Rangers at the Wagah Border on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

However, BSF troops exchanged sweets with the Bangladeshi troops deployed at the India-Bangladesh border.

Since the last few occasions, BSF has not been participating in the customary exchange of sweets at the Attari-Wagah border in Punjab which used to take place on Republic Day, Independence Day, Eid, Diwali among other events.

On Diwali too, BSF did not accept sweets from Pakistan side and had also not sent them sweets on Republic Day and the new year.

"Pakistan continues to back terrorism even when the world is threatened by COVID-19. We have not offered them sweets on Eid this time and will reconsider offering them in future too if they refuse to stop terrorists coming to India from their soil," a senior BSF official said.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramzan, which is a month of fasting and prayer for the Muslim community.

This year, Eid is being celebrated amid the extended nationwide lockdown enforced to contain the spread of COVID-19.
