Odisha Train Accident: Eleven Coaches of Bangalore-Kamakhya Express Derail Near Cuttack (Watch Video)

Eleven coaches of the Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express train, number 12551, derailed close to the Nergundi station in the Odisha town of Cuttack. In the Choudwar region, the train derailed close to the Manguli passenger stop. The derailment happened on March 30 at approximately 11:54 AM. Higher-ranking authorities have hurried to the scene, including the general manager of ECoR and the divisional railway manager (DRM) of Khurda Road. Additionally, a medical and accident relief train has been hurried to the location. The railway officials have not yet provided any information about the casualties being reported in this accident. Concerned about the derailment, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that the authorities are striving to restore normalcy as soon as possible.

Several train routes have been changed as a result of the accident, said ECoR officials. Additionally, according to ECoR authorities, they are arranging for backup plans to guarantee that the passengers arrive at their destinations before beginning repair work.

Ashoka Kumar Mishra, CPRO, East Coast Railway, said, "We got information about the derailment of some coaches of 12551 Kamakhya Superfast Express. As of now, we have the information that 11 AC coaches have been derailed. No one is injured. All the passengers are safe. As far as we got the news of the accident, emergency medical equipment was sent. Senior officials are going to reach the spot soon. DRM Khurda Road, GM/ECoR, and other higher level officials rushed to the spot. We will get to know the cause of the derailment after the inquiry. Our priority is to divert the trains waiting on the route and start the restoration work..."

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X, “I am aware of the incident involving 12551 Kamakhya Express in Odisha. @CMOfficeAssam is in touch with the Odisha Government and Railways. We will reach out to each and every person who is affected.”

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi posted on X, “Deeply concerned about the derailment of Kamakhya Express near Nergundi station in #Cuttack. Grateful that all passengers are safe. Authorities are on-site, ensuring assistance and restoring normalcy at the earliest. Helplines activated for support.”

The required preparations were being made to transport the stranded travellers to their destinations, and the helpline lines 8455885999 and 8991124238 have been set up.
